Building Societies report growth in mortgage lending
The Building Societies Association (BSA) has reported encouraging lending figures for August. Mortgage approvals lifted by 10% on July this year and were up 17% compared with August 2010. The Coventry and Stroud & Swindon Building Societies have confirmed they are to merge. Coventry is the UK’s 3rd largest society and one of the strongest, having recently declared healthy profits of £56.2m for 2009.
